Regarding the strike action taking place this week in the vicinity of Cookhouse town, the Cookhouse Wind Farm would like to clarify the details surrounding the demonstrations. The strike is in no way related to the Cookhouse Wind Farm, but is rather in connection with allegations that the town's community would like certain municipality councilors to stand down.
The Cookhouse Wind Farm project, as a socially responsible entity, continues to be aware of the various socio-economic issues facing the community including Education, Health, Scarcity of Enterprise Development and High Unemployment and is in the process of establishing the Cookhouse Community Trust in consultation with the four communities of Cookhouse, Bedford, Somerset East and Adelaide to address such issues in a meaningful and sustainable way.
In the interim however the Cookhouse Wind Farm has undertaken a number of small scale goodwill projects to begin addressing such issues within the community including:
o Active participation in the community through the organisation of a community football tournament
o A school project to raise awareness of the renewable energy industry and the Cookhouse wind farm in particular
o Lectures by qualified engineers at over 25 local schools to increase interest in science and engineering
o Planning of a greening project to improve the grounds of the Cookhouse municipality
In addition, the Cookhouse Wind Farm has developed a data base of individuals and businesses from the four surrounding communities of Cookhouse, Bedford, Somerset East and Adelaide, from which the contractors are required to source people for employment on the project.
The Cookhouse Wind Farm team is committed to a high level of corporate citizenship and hopes that these small scale initiatives are indicative of the ongoing support that the project intends to bring to the four communities of Cookhouse, Bedford, Somerset East and Adelaide over time.
