A Port Elizabeth woman who was a fugitive from justice for nearly a year appeared briefly in the PE Commercial Crimes Court on Monday morning.
Rhonda Zeelie was arrested in Port Elizabeth on Friday after being found guilty last September of fraud involving an amount of R479 942.
She was out on bail of R2000 pending sentencing in October 2019, when she vanished.
Zeelie, who had been employed as an accountant at a PE company, had misappropriated the money by unlawfully transferring it to her personal bank account between 2017 and 2018.
The National Prosecuting Authority says that at Monday's appearance, Zeelie indicated that she wants to get her own attorney.
She is being held in custody and her case was postponed to Wednesday for her to obtain legal representation.
It is expected that Zeelie will now be facing an additional charge of contempt of court for absconding ahead of sentencing.
