Twitter

The ANC has offered its condolences to the family and friends of former Nelson Mandela Bay Mayor Mongomeli Bobani, who passed away in a Port Elizabeth hospital on Wednesday, three weeks after being admitted with Covid-19.

In a statement on its official Twitter feed a short while ago, the ruling party also offered its condolences to Bobani’s political home, the UDM.

The ANC said Bobani would be remembered for his dedication to serving the people of Nelson Mandela Bay.

He was the Mayoral Committee’s member for infrastructure and engineering at the time of his passing.

UDM leader Bantu Holomisa stated on Wednesday evening in which he described Bobani as a hard-working cadre who was always available to help communities.

Holomisa thanked 52-year-old Bobani’s family for allowing him to contribute to and build the UDM.

Nelson Mandela Bay Acting Executive Mayor Tshonono Buyeye also offered his condolences to the Bobani family on behalf of the NMB Municipality.

He stated that the loss of Bobani is a wound that cuts deep and that his energy, passion, compassion and inimitable style will never be forgotten.

Meanwhile, Twitter users said Bobani would be remembered, for his sense of humour.

In the wake of the news that he passed away on Wednesday night, social media users flooded Twitter to express their condolences to his family.

The 52-year-old Bobani, who was an avid Twitter user, would respond to the resident’s queries and complaints on the social media platform.

Algoa Fm listeners also responded in their numbers to the news of his passing on the News Facebook page.

In this Twitter video, posted shortly after the hard lockdown was announced, Bobani urged residents to stay at home.
