Collegiate Girls High in Gqeberha says none of their pupils were involved in bringing chickens and turkeys onto their school premises, however, it is clear that some learners became involved in other events for which they must now take responsibility.

Principal Louise Erasmus says 75 learners were involved in the now infamous 40-day celebration scandal that brought both Collegiate and Grey High’s name into disrepute.

There was damage to the netball courts that were covered in flour, powder sauce and food, while hockey goals were wrapped in glad wrap and some moved onto the driveway.

Rubbish bins were upended, toilet paper strewn around campus and equipment dug out from the Astro-turf.

She says two turkeys were found on the Astro-turf, while a chicken was found sheltering in the quad between the Ivy Leaf and the entrance of the resource centre.

Offensive posters and images as well as undergarments were also left on the Grey High school premises.

Erasmus says the learners were all sanctioned in line with their particular actions and involvement.

She says some sanctions include Saturday detention and letters of apology that needs to be written to both schools.

The learners will also undergo sensitivity training in order to develop an understanding and compassion for animals.

Donation of sanitary items, food, undergarments and arts and crafts items for those in need is also listed as a sanction.

Erasmus says although the events of the night in question were unacceptable, the learners demonstrated integrity by disclosing their full involvement.
