Parents at Collegiate Girls High School in Gqeberha have handed in a memorandum listing their demands after a reported incident of body-shaming against a matric learner.
It was handed in on Monday after school principal, Louise Erasmus, took to the podium during assembly and apologised to pupils about the alleged incident.
Pupils protested outside the school last Friday after a learner was allegedly told she could not take part in a school fashion show because her matric dance dress was inappropriate.
The 17-year-old was allegedly then called to Erasmus's office who also told her that her boobs were "awkward."
This prompted parents to address the matter in a more than two-hour-long meeting with school management and the Department of Education (DOE) also on Friday.
Parent representative, Eondo Suka, told Algoa FM News that the meeting was fruitful.
She said the memorandum highlights several demands, which include that Erasmus and the school Management attend training on Diversity Management in institutions that are sensitive to a disability, gender, and racial dynamics.
Other grievances include, that the DOE approaches the Commission for Gender Equality, to conduct a comprehensive investigation to evaluate, protect and promote policy development committed to the building of gender equality within Collegiate's premises.
