Police in Alexandria arrested four people for shoplifting after they allegedly helped themselves to seven bottles of coffee and two cans of milk formula at a supermarket in town.
Police Spokesperson Captain Mali Govender says the shop owner became suspicious when the suspects walked up and down the aisles.
The owner then noticed that the shelf with all his coffee was empty. He asked the people to stop but they ignored him, got into their vehicle and drove away.
The owner followed them and managed to stop them just before Port Alfred.
Govender says when police arrived they searched the vehicle and found several plastic bags from different stores including Mr Price, Street Fever and Sheet-street, with branded security tape from Mr Price, which is normally used to seal packages when shoppers enter another store.
They also found the five bottles of Jacobs Krönung, 2 bottles of Nescafe Gold and 2 cans of Nan milk formula in the car.
The three women and one man will appear in court on Monday on a charge of shoplifting.
