The R72 coastal road between Port Elizabeth and East London has been reopened for light vehicles.
Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, says she was notified on Tuesday morning that cars are once again allowed to use the route, following Monday's disruption where travellers had to use a long detour via Cookhouse.
She says that heavy vehicles are still required to use the alternative route.
Meanwhile, the Ndlambe Municipality has advised that water supply problems are being experienced in Port Alfred.
Municipal spokesperson, Cecil Mbolekwa, says they are working on the problem and hope to restore the supply by the end of Tuesday.
He did not give any reason for the interruption, but reports from the town say that a supply pipe had ruptured.
