The Hawks in the Eastern Cape are investigating a Cash-in-Transit heist on the N2 off-ramp to Nahoon in East London.
Hawks Spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela says it is alleged that a Silver Grey Polo was escorting a Fidelity Company vehicle at about 6.30 on Friday morning when unknown men jumped into the car.
She says the suspects instructed the escorts to inform the Fidelity car to stop on the off-ramp before they were disarmed.
The escorts were then followed by two bakkies until they all stopped at the crime scene.
Mgolodela says the guards were disarmed and robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspects fled in the Polo that they abandoned in Mdantsane.
Captain Mgolodela said on Saturday that cash in the amount of R800 000 was robbed during the incident.
She says no arrests have yet been made and the investigation continues.
