A Port Elizabeth school which regularly hosted the Brian Boswells Circus on its premises has slapped a total ban on the circus because of reports about animal cruelty.
Dr Crystal Watson, chairperson of the Walmer West school board, says the board took the decision in reaction a report on Carte Blanche.
Speaking to the DMB on Algoa FM today, Watson said in the past they had also appealed to the circus not to use animals in their routines.
She said the school wants to distance itself from Brian Boswell Circus.
"At this stage we completely want to dissasociate ourselves completely with the circus. There is no contract or communication or anything between the school or circus. We are completely against having the circus here at all" Watson sais.
Meanwhile, the management of Brian Boswells Circus says it was outraged to see the NSPCA footage of the elephant grooms betraying the trust placed in them and hitting the elephants.
In a statement to Algoa FM, the circus said the footage was taken last December but seen for the first time on Carte Blanche.
Spokesperson, Georgina Boswell, said had they seen the footage earlier, they would have acted sooner.
She says one of the handlers in the video was dismissed while the other has been suspended.
