A Chinese national was robbed of tens of thousands of rands in cash by three armed men in Summerstrand on Saturday morning.
Warrant Officer Alwin Labans says the Chinese Businessman had withdrawn a substantial amount of money from the Standard Bank Branch in the Summerstrand Village Centre and was on his way to Mount Road when he was waylaid by three men in a white toyata vehicle.
Labans says they had clearly observed him make the transaction and followed him until they got to the corner of McWilliams Street and Strandfontein Road where they started shooting. When the man stopped his vehicle, one of the shooters got out and smashed the driver's window and grabbed the money bag and fled.
The Chinese National was not injured and police are searching for the suspects.
Labans again appealed to members of the public not to make large cash transactions, but rather to make arrangements with the bank, as they were only putting themselves in harms way.
