Trade and Industry Minister, Ebrahim Patel, said the new R135m Aberdare Cables High Voltage Cable plant investment in Port Elizabeth was a vote of confidence in the Eastern Cape economy.
Aberdare Cables South Africa officially launched the multi-million rand plant in the city on Thursday, the third of its kind in Africa.
Patel said this was also an opportunity to bring young people into jobs with the current factory already employing more than 400 young people.
"This expansion will give an opportunity for 58 additional jobs. But, there's a wider message of saying that investors believe in the country and believe that there is an enormous opportunity," he said.
Minister Patel said that there are many more investors from China and elsewhere in the world who want to expand their operations in South Africa.
Aberdare Cables CEO Dr Haiyan Song said the manufacturing company was growing the economy as its products were produced and manufactured locally.
He said the parent company, Hengtong, is looking to invest further in South Africa over the next few years.
During his one-day visit, Minister Patel also had engagements with Isuzu Motors South Africa, Beijing automaker, BAIC and the Coega Industrial Development Corporation.
