Child strangled in revenge attack- suspect hands himself over

A 33-year-old man has handed himself over to police in Gqeberha following the murder of a six-year-old boy.

Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the body of Thabang Klaas was discovered on a footpath in the bushes in Swartkops on Monday afternoon.

She says it is alleged that the suspect fetched his ex-girlfriend's son from his grandmother's house in New Brighton on Friday before strangling him in the bushes between Mathys Grounds and Wells Estate.

Colonel Naidu says the motive for the murder is suspected to be out of revenge.

The suspect is being detained on a charge of murder and is expected to appear in court this week.

Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Nomthetheleli Mene expressed her condolences to the family of the deceased child and added that children need to be protected from abuse and violence at the hands of those to whom they look up to and emulate as role models
