A 28-year-old man is expected to appear in the Magistrates Court in Gqeberha on Tuesday for the murder and attempted murder of two University students earlier this year.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the suspect was arrested at a hotel in Seapoint in Cape Town after excellent work by Detective Constable Ridwaan Baatjies.
She says on the 2nd of April this year, a group of young adults were standing at the corners of Parliament and Lawrence Street in Central when the suspect allegedly approached their group making a nuisance of himself.
Colonel Naidu says when he refused to leave an argument broke out which led to one of the group members slapping the suspect in the face.
She says the suspect left but returned later with a firearm and started shooting at the group.
Twenty-two-year-old University student Abongile Mgu was killed while a 21-year-old female student was shot and wounded in the abdomen.
The suspect was arrested in Cape Town on the 20th of July.
