A 60-year-old cyclist from Gqeberha had a harrowing ordeal on Monday when he was attacked and robbed of his bicycle.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the complainant was cycling in Walmer just after 5 am when he was surprised by two suspects as he turned into 4th Avenue.
She says the suspects jumped him from behind and he fell off his bike.
He also claimed he heard two shots being fired before the suspects grabbed his bicycle and ran off.
Colonel Naidu says the complainant was not sure if the shots he heard were from a pistol or a BB gun but he decided to run after his attackers.
She says he eventually found his bicycle, worth R20 000, lying in Albert Road.
This area is not a known hotspot for cyclists to be attacked.
