Eastern Cape police have welcomed the life sentence imposed on a man convicted of raping a five-year-old child.
Makwedini Skoluku (56) was jailed in the High Court in Makanda (Grahamstown) this week.
The court heard that he had lured the child from her grandmother’s house in Kenton On Sea in April, offering her and her friends money to purchase snacks.
However, he kept the victim behind as the others went to the shop. He then took the child to his place where he raped her.
Skoluku was later accosted by a local anti-crime member who helped in the search for the missing girl who was found at his house. He was then taken into custody.
Port Alfred Cluster Commander, Brigadier Morgan Govender, commended investigating officer Constable Sandra Catherine of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for securing the life sentence.
