A 31-year-old Eastern Cape man will spend the rest of his life behind bars for raping an 11-year-old girl.
Police said that Mthuthuzeli Maya was sentenced in the Willowvale Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
He was convicted of raping the child in June last year at Nqadu Village near the town after she went to his place to fetch a netball.
She was only released the following day.
Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu, said he hoped the sentence would send a strong message that those who abuse women and children would be dealt with by the law.
