George mayor, Leon van Wyk, has expressed the city's condolences to the family of a four-year-old boy who died after being electrocuted on an energized fence he says was attached to an illegal connection.
The toddler was identified as Ophayo Tukushe of Thembalethu.
Her mother, Nolundi, also suffered an electric shock when coming into contact with the same fence the following day, but survived.
Municipality spokesperson, Ntobeko Mangqwenqwe, says the Municipality's electro-technical department confirmed that the fence became energized from an illegal connection, which was safely removed.
He says Van Wyk's saddened by the incident, but also issued the following caution.
The Mayor issued a stern warning to refrain from installing illegal connections as it poses a fatal danger to society.
Mangqwenqwe asked law-abiding citizens to play their part and report illegal connections.
