A 10-year-old child has died after drowning at a farm dam in the Wilderness in the Garden Route.
A spokesperson for the National Sea Rescue Institute Craig Lambinon says the child was swimming with friends on Sunday when h disappeared under the water.
He says the sea rescue craft Oscars Rescuer was towed to the scene and NSRI swimmers, police and medical services responded to the scene.
Lambinon says rescue swimmers located the child on the shore and commenced CPR.
He says all efforts to resuscitate the boy were exhausted and he was declared deceased.
His body was handed into the care of Government Health Forensic Pathology Services.
The name of the victim has not been released.
