An inquest docket is being investigated following the drowning of a nine-year-old girl at an Eastern Cape holiday beach resort, police said on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender said the young girl drowned on Tuesday afternoon at the Birha Resort situated between East London and Port Alfred.
“The child was swimming when she was pulled out to sea by strong currents. A local assisted in getting the child out the water,” said Govender.
Govender said the nine-year-old was from the nearby Tuku administrative area.
It is unknown at this stage who accompanied the child to the beach.
