The Graaff-Reinet woman whose body was found in Stockenstroom street in the town on Monday has been identified as a local nurse, Frieda Rogers.
The Graaff-Reinet Advertiser reported on its website that 47-year-old Rogers had worked at an old age home in the same street.
According to the website, she had reported as normal for her nightshift on Sunday night at seven pm and worked until seven the next morning.
She was found in a water furrow in the street, still dressed in her uniform.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer, Hannes Theron, said they were waiting for the post-mortem results which would determine the exact cause of death.
