Cheryl Zondi turns her pain into purpose

The young woman who lifted the veil of secrecy surrounding controversial Nigerian pastor, Timothy Omotoso, has started a foundation to help women who had fallen victim to his sexual abuse.

Cheryl Zondi, who provided harrowing testimony at the rape and human trafficking trial of the televangelist, launched a foundation to support women and children who have suffered mental, emotional, spiritual and sexual abuse in sacred spaces.

Addressing a media briefing on Tuesday, Zondi said the Foundation would also run awareness campaigns to enlighten the public to be aware about this, what she said, was a complex system of abuse.

The University student said that she's also laid a complaint with the Public Protector calling for an investigation into the witness protection programme, which from her experience does not work for the victims of crime.

Omotoso's trial resumes in the Port Elizabeth High Court next Monday.
