Residents of Kamesh in Uitenhage set fire to at least one house and looted foreign owned spaza shops in a flare up of violence following a protest march on Friday.
Police have condemned the actions, adding that violent protestors will face the full might of the law.
Police spokesperson, warrant officer Gerda Swart, says no one was injured in the violence late Wednesday afternoon and police maintained a strong presence overnight.
Earlier in the day residents marched to the town hall where they presented a memorandum of grievances to the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality demanding land for housing.
