A DA Councillor in Burgersdorp in the Eastern Cape will lay a charge of vandalism with the police.
This follows the defacing of one of the monuments in the Town Square which was splashed with green paint.
Councillor, Marina van Zyl, says the Burger and Taal Monuments in Burgersdorp date back more than 100 years and should be protected by the Heritage Act.
She says repeated attempts to have the monuments fenced off have been unsuccessful, allegedly because of tensions between the mayor and municipal manager.
