Cash-in-transit robbery suspects appear in EC court

Five men linked to a cash-in-transit robbery in Tsolo in the Eastern Cape will remain behind bars after appearing in court this week.

Hawks spokesperson, Captain Anelisa Feni, said they were allegedly part of a group of 16 assailants who attacked and robbed a G4 security vehicle near the town at the beginning of the month.

The gang escaped with an undisclosed amount of money.

Feni said three vehicles used in the heist were recovered on the same day by members of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigating Unit.

The suspects, Siyabonga Khoza, Dumisani Mazibuko, Bheki Khumalo, NkosinathiMahlangu and Sibongiseni Zondi, were arrested on 2 October in Johannesburg, a day after the robbery.

They appeared in the Tsolo Magistrate’s Court on Thursday where the matter was postponed to next week for a possible bail application.
