Cash -in- transit heist in broad daylight in Plett

A security guard was assaulted and a large sum of money stolen during a broad daylight cash-in-transit heist in Plettenberg Bay on Monday.

Local police spokesman Lieutenant Marlene Pieterse said security guards were busy delivering money to Standard Bank at Melville's Corner shopping centre in Main Street when they were confronted by three armed men at about 11.10am.

"The suspects instructed the two guards to hand over the money and when one resisted, one of the men hit him over the head with a weapon," Pieterse said.
The men then grabbed two bags containing an undisclosed amount of money. "Although we cannot reveal the amount taken, I can confirm that it was a large sum." The three suspects then fled the scene on foot.

"No one has been arrested in connection with the incident, but we are investigating the robbery."
