Case of murdered PE couple finally wraps up

The Port Elizabeth High Court has convicted four men on charges of robbery and kidnapping that led to the subsequent death of a couple in Marine Drive in Summerstrand in 2011.

Judge Bonisile Sandi on Friday found 21-year old Andrico Williams guilty of murder and the illegal possession of a firearm and amunition.

Twenty-five-year old Shannon Mopp and 27-year old Junaid Van Vught were also found guilty on a charge of murder, but were acquitted on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Twenty-two-year old Justin Najoe was acquitted on a charge of murder and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

During January 2011, 28-year old Owen Demingo and 22-year old Sarah-Jane Oliphant were highjacked from a car park in Bloemendal, and were later shot in a bushy area along Marine Drive.

Demingo's mother, Hendricka Kamineth, says the verdict gives her some closure, but the family still battles to come to terms with her son's death.

"There is closure in this case, since 2011 until now I was in depression for a year, I had to leave my work. His daughter is now 5-years old, she was 2-years old when he died. We are both in counseling and I am still on medication." says Kamineth.

The case was provisionally postponed until the 23rd of October for a probation officer's report on all four accused.
