Carbon tax deadline draws closer

The Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber says the carbon tax which comes into effect in January 2015, amounts to nothing more than a penalty to already good responsible business practises.

The Chamber on Tuesday highlighted the potential impact of the introduction of the Carbon Tax on local business.

Andrew Phillips, who heads the Chambers's Greening Business task team, said a significant aspect of the pending carbon tax is the need for businesses to complete a Greenhouse Gas baseline before the end of the year in order to comprehend and record the carbon tax.

He says in response to this, the Chamber will be hosting a series of free carbon tax planning workshops which will take place on Thursday and November 7th at the Chamber offices, aimed at providing small, medium and large business consumers with the tools to complet the baseline assessment.
