The Kouga Municipality has implemented stricter water restrictions due to the ongoing drought and the rapidly dwindling water resources in the region.
In a statement issued late on Wednesday night, the municipality instructed all car-wash businesses within the Kouga region to only use recycled water in the operation of their business.
Kouga Municipal Manager Charl du Plessis says this instruction is with immediate effect.
He says law enforcement officers from the municipality will closely monitor car-was businesses to ensure that they adhere to the latest restrictions.
Du Plessis says this decision was taken to assist us in defeating Day Zero.
The combined level of the dams (Impofu Dam and Churchill Dam) that supply water to the region - Jeffreys Bay, Humansdorp, St Francis Bay and Cape St Francis - had a total of just more than 10% earlier this week.
