An 18-month-old was in a critical condition in hospital after the driver of a vehicle reversed over the child in a driveway of a property in Kwa Ximba in Cato Ridge, near Pietermaritzburg on Monday, the ER24 paramedic service said.
The baby was taken to a nearby clinic shortly after the incident, the paramedic service said.âUpon arrival at the clinic, paramedics found nurses attending to the baby. Upon assessment it was found that the child sustained severe injuries.âParamedics called in the assistance of a helicopter to airlift the baby to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment.The details around the incident were not yet known.
Meanwhile a five-year-old Knysna boy who died when he was hit by a construction vehicle, will be buried this week.
The child was cycling in Balie Street, Concordia, four days ago when the vehicle hit him from behind.
Knysna police spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies says police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
Spies says the construction vehicle will be kept on police property until a mechanical investigation has been conducted.
