Eastern Cape Local Government and Traditional Affairs MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane says Communities throughout the Eastern Cape have a critical role to play in urgently changing the face of traditional circumcision.
He was delivering the opening speech on Thursday morning at the two-day Municipality/MEC meeting in Queenstown.
More than 20 deaths have been recorded at Eastern Cape circumcision schools since December.
Qoboshiyane said this statistic was very worrying and that the deaths have to be stopped immediately through effective participation by all communities - including traditional leaders.
