The Democratic Alliance in the Eastern Cape has called on Bhisho to stop the rot paralysing the Eastern Cape health department.
DA MPL, John Cupido, says the Department's current budget of R15.1b will need an additional injection of R9b just to fill thousands of critical vacant posts.
He says a further R5b will also be needed to start whittling away at the infrastructure backlog estimated at R19b.
Cupido says a report by the Special Investigating Unit had revealed that there are 4,000 health department officials busy defrauding health and other provincial departments.
"The department needs to investigate this and where they find people to have been corrupt, disciplinary action needs to be taken and those people need to be gotten rid of because we have a blatant administration a lot of people in the administration are being paid that aren't really doing their jobs well, if we can streamline the administration we will have more money to be able to pay our nurses and doctors" Cupido said.
