Cosatu in Nelson Mandela Bay has called on the national leadership of the ANC to disband the regional executive committee under the leadership of former mayor, Nceba Faku.
This is one of the key demands in a memorandum presented to Metro speaker, Maria Hermans today, following a march by more than a thousand members of the SA Municipal Workers Union, Numsa and the civic body Sanco, to city hall.
Cosatu's Andile Dloko says they want the national leadership of the ANC to run the affairs of the party in the Metro.
He also accused the current ANC leaders of not providing proper leadership in the Metro.
"The leadership of the ANC currently have not been able to provide such leadership that is required of the Metro. The poor performance of the ANC in (last municipal) election can attest to that. The inability of the ANC leadership in providing unity of its membership, its that leadership that perpetuates division in the Nelson Mandela Metro," he said.
Dloko also says that several issues were also raised with respect to the performance of the municipality.
"We are demanding that they must urgently recruit a municipal manager and executive directors. That process can assist in service delivery. The other area we want speedy action on the Kabuso report because its another area that continues to bring divisions in the ANC," said Dloko.
The Kabuso forensic report identified several cases of maladministration in Nelson Mandela Bay and identified former mayor Nceba Faku as a key player in several events.
