The MEC for Social Development and Special Programmes in the Eastern Cape, Pemmy Majodina handed over school uniforms, stationery and sanitary towels to 82 needy students in Joubertina on Thursday.
The event was part of the Department's annual back-to-school campaign, which is aimed at addressing issues that affect children in the province, such as poverty, physical and sexual abuse, neglect, substance abuse and loss of parents due to HIV and AIDS.
480 children from Cacadu District Municipality will benefit from the 2012 back to school campaign.
The Children were assessed by social workers.
Last year, the Department utilized R3 million to supply more than 8-thousand children with school uniforms, stationery and sanitary towels.
