Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality security officers arrested two suspected cable thieves who were caught red-handed burning stolen cables on Saturday.

NMB Safety and Security head, Lawrence Troon, said the successful arrest of the two men, aged 31 and 32, was a collaborative work between NMBM and the Sidwell Neighbourhood Watch.

He said they alerted the Security Officers to the crime taking place close to the Sidwell Traffic Offices around 12pm, and upon arrival, they found the suspects and also recovered 13 batteries, believed to have been stolen from a substation.

"This is the kind of collaboration we wish to see in all areas of our city, as we continue to fight against cable theft, vandalism, and theft from our facilities,” Troon said.
