The NSRI Storms River and Oyster Bay crew members were activated on Friday afternoon following reports of a woman injured near to the Storms River waterfall, in the Tsitsikamma Nature reserve.

NSRI Oyster Bay station commander Lodewyk van Rensburg says they responded along with members of Untouched Adventures, SANPARKS and Private Care ambulance services.

In a difficult operation, hampered by slippery rock surfaces in rain conditions, the injured 48-year-old German woman was finally stretchered out of the area in an operation which lasted more than three hours.

She was transported to hospital and was in a stable condition following surgery.

Meanwhile: The National Sea Rescue Institute is celebrating its national open day on Saturday 1 October.

NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon says its been an incredibly busy past 8 days for the Institute around the country and sadly they've seen 7 water related fatalities during this time.

Lambinon says their NSRI volunteers at the 50 NSRI rescue stations around the country are looking forward to welcoming the public as they showcase the organisation and its resources.
