Cabinet has agreed to build the capacity of provinces and municipalities to enable them to respond more quickly and appropriately to natural disaster.
This follows a report from the National Disaster Management Centre that noted an increase in the number of disaster incidences across the country.
Cabinet's acting spokesperson Phumla Williams says there's a need for government to spend more on training teams in the municipality.
" We need to get municipalities to be better prepared and to be able to plan better, because they don't seem to be going away and one of the reasons could be due to climate change, so there is a need for government to invest more in training the municipalities and provinces" Williams said.
