Cabinet has approved the framework for the multi-billion rand infrastructure implementation plan.
Minister in the Presidency Collins Chabane briefed the media today following cabinet's regular fortnightly meeting.
He says the massive infrastructure plan announced by president Jacob Zuma, was necessary to provide the services needed to drive the economy.
Among other things, the plan comprises 17 strategic infrastructure projects and 153 project components.
The Eastern Cape is one of the provinces that will benefit directly from government's multi-billion rand infrastructure spending.
An amount of R845b will be spent on the expansion of the Coega IDZ as well as the East London and Richards Bay Industrial Development Zones.
Meawhile, Chabane says cabinet has adopted a new slogan for the country.
He says the new slogan, Inspiring New Ways, replaces the previous slogan, Alive With Possibilities.
Chabane says the new slogan was adopted following extensive stakeholder consultations.
