Bystanders have saved a four-year-old boy from drowning in shallow water in the Knysna lagoon.
The National Sea Rescue Institute says NSRI volunteers responded to a distress call, and found the boy unconscious and struggling for breath, lying on a towel on the beach at Leisure Isle on Saturday evening.
NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon says the boy was pulled out of the water by bystanders.
He says they immediately began resuscitation efforts and the child regained consciousness and his breathing became easier.
Lambinon says the boy was transported to a local hospital.
