The political spotlight will once again be focused on Nelson Mandela Bay this week with two by-elections scheduled for the Metro.
Ward 4 in Walmer Township will be hotly contested by seven political parties, including the the ANC, DA, EFF, UDM, ACDP and the United Front.
The Ward became vacant after ANC councillor, Nceba Dywili, was shot dead in Zwide just ahead of the local government election.
Voter turnout in that Ward was 53.17%.
Meanwhile, Ward 14 in New Brighton will also see the main parties contesting the ward which had a voter-turnout of 62.34% in the August local government poll.
The Electoral Commission of South Africa says by-elections will also be held in four other wards across Eastern Cape municipalities.
The IEC said 15 municipal ward by-elections will take place in the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Northern Cape and Western Cape on Wednesday, 09 November 2016.
The by-elections are being contested by 66 candidates representing 16 political parties and two independent candidates.
"Voting will take place at voting stations in the relevant wards from 07h00 to 21h00 on Wednesday, 9 November 2016," the IEC said in a statement on Monday.
"Voting hours for Mbhashe Municipality Ward 17 as well as Port St Johns Municipality Ward 7 in the Eastern Cape by-elections will be from 07h00 to 19h00."
"You must be registered in a voting district within ward being contested in the by-election to be eligible to vote and voters must provide identification (either a green bar-coded ID book, a smartcard ID or a valid Temporary ID Certificate).”
“Registered voters can SMS their ID number to 32810 (cost R1) or dial *120*432# and follow the prompts to check their voting station details," said IEC spokesperson Kate Bapela.
