Butterworth man arrested for rape

A man has been arrested for raping a 19-year-old mentally challenged woman in Butterworth in the Eastern Cape.

Police Captain Jackson Manatha says the 26-year-old suspect went to the woman's home on Tuesday and convinced her to go with him to his house.

He says the man allegedly raped the woman for the duration of the night and released her on Wednesday morning.

Manatha says she later informed her relatives, and they alerted authorities.

The suspect is due to appear in the Butterworth Magistrate's Court on Monday.
