SAPS

Port Elizabeth K9-Officer Mufasa and his handler apprehended a 21-year-old suspect who was part of a group who allegedly stole bicycles at Titian Crescent in Klipdale Street, Miramar, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says a description of the suspects was given to Walmer police who spotted the perpetrators cycling down Buffelsfontein Road.

She says the K9 unit was asked to provide backup and when police stopped the suspects they abandoned the bicycles and ran.

Officer Mufasa nabbed one of the men and stolen bicycles to the value of R15 000 were recovered.

Captain Janse van Rensburg says it was a busy weekend for Mufasa and his handler who also responded to a complaint of housebreaking and theft at a primary school in Kwazakhele.

She says a 27-year-old suspect was found hiding inside the ceiling of the school and was arrested.

Mufasa also assisted with the arrest of a 37-year-old man in Central, who was found in possession of drugs, as well as a 32-year-old suspect in New Brighton who was wanted on a charge of assault.

All the suspects are due to appear in court on Monday.
