Port Elizabeth businessman, Arthur Webb, has been convicted of fraud and corruption in the city's Commercial Crimes Court.
He pleaded guilty on Tuesday to being in concert with a former Sars employee, Petrus Meyer, to defraud the SA Revenue Service of more than six million rand.
Webb will be back in court on the 18th of December for sentencing.
In his plea statement Webb admitted to being complicit with Meyer in committing the offences, but he said it was Meyer's position within the SA Revenue Service and with his guidance and on his assurance that he could internally and inconspicuously manipulate the Vat refund system, that had had participated in committing the offences.
Webb said he wanted to use the money to relieve the dire financial circumstances he and his businesses were in.
Meanwhile, the trial of the two was separated today and Meyer will also be back in court on December 18th.
