Bus drivers embarked on a national wage strike today, leaving commuters stranded.
The SA Transport and Allied Workers' Union announced the strike on Thursday and said it was a result of a wage negotiations deadlock.
Port Elizabeth's Algoa Bus Company says in a statement whilst it has tried its best to avoid the strike and service disruptions, there will be no service from today until further notice.
Workers are demanding an 18% wage increase and the employers had offered only 2.5%.
Satawu spokesperson, Vincent Masoga says workers are also demanding a minimum wage of R6000 a month across the industry, a R1000 housing allowance, and an increase in medical aid contributions.
