A passenger bus and two bakkies were set alight along Rocklands Road in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge says a group of unknown people barricaded the road passing Gunguluza shortly before 5 am.
He says when firefighters and police arrived on the scene their vehicles were pelted with stones.
Beetge says the motive for the protest seems to be service delivery related.
The road has since been opened, however, police urged motorists to use an alternative route for their own safety.
