Police in Gqeberha are investigating the possibility that a body they discovered in the bushes on the old Coega Road is that of a missing local woman.
Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says on Sunday afternoon, 35-year-old Ayanda Dupa-Emenaha left her place of work at the harbour and dropped off a co-worker in Rink Street.
She says Dupa-Emenaha indicated to her friend that she was first making a stop in Westbourne Road in Central, before going home.
Col Naidu says Ayanda never arrived home.
She says her white Toyota Etios was found abandoned on the old Coega Road shortly after midnight on Monday.
Her husband then opened up a missing person report at the Humewood police station.
Col Naidu says on Tuesday afternoon, with the assistance of the K9 Search and Rescue Unit, a body was found in the bushes about 30 m from where Dupa-Emenaha's car was found.
She says none of her personal belongings were on the scene.
Col Naidu says the circumstances surrounding her disappearance are unknown at this stage.
She says although they believe the body is that of Ayanda, it was burnt beyond recognition and a DNA test will have to be conducted to confirm their suspicion.
