The Eastern Education Department has condemned the bullying incident involving two Cambridge high school learners in the Buffalo City Education district.
The incident took place last week.
In a recorded video that went viral, a boy wearing a white school shirt is seen assaulting the victim several times while also choking him with another hand.
The Department has instructed the district to meet the Cambridge High's School Management team as well as the School Governing Body to urgently investigate the matter and bring to book everyone involved in the squabble.
Psychosocial teams will also be deployed to provide counselling to the victim and all learners adversely affected by the incident.
The School posted a brief statement on their Facebook page stating that the incident happened off the school's premises.
The school added that the incident was viewed in a very serious light but that they were not in a position to comment as the matter is under investigation.
