Mass brawl in Central now a murder investigation

Gqeberha police have opened a murder docket after a man who was stabbed during a mass brawl in Central last week, succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says Ethiopian national, Fikre Adeba, sustained a stab wound to his upper torso.

She says three other men who were also injured during last Wednesday's brawl, were treated and discharged from hospital, following a fight involving a 32-year-old countryman.

Naidu says the police are still searching for the man who was found in Happy Valley by a security official.

She says he was in the company of friends, and while receiving medical attention, he attempted to run away towards the ocean but was subdued and taken to hospital.

She says he was treated and discharged on the same day.

Further investigations revealed the fight between the man and other foreign nationals broke out in Havelock Street in Central and he allegedly stabbed several of them before fleeing with friends.

The man, who is now a suspect, has since vanished.

Naidu says anyone who may know the man's whereabouts, should contact their nearest police station.
