Police in Buffalo City closed down two shebeens this weekend and confiscated liquor valued at 45-thousand rand.
Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli says the shebeens were closed for operating as unlicensed liquor outlets, and the owners were fined.
Police confiscated 217-thousand 204 litres of liquor valued at around R45 000.
Warrant officer Nkholi says three taverns were served with compliance notices for various contravention of the liquor act such as failure to appoint a manager.
Thirteen people were arrested for crimes ranging from possession of illicit drugs to assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
255 vehicles were stopped and searched during the operation in Buffalo City.
