Buffalo City needs R3.85b over the next 20 years to address the services backlog in informal settlements.
In a recent presentation to parliament's Human Settlements Committee, Buffalo City said it required R1.3b for water, R2.1 billion for sanitation and R450 million rand for electrification projects.
Buffalo City said 41 informal settlements with approximately 13 000 informal structures had been identified for full relocation, while a further 58 have been identified for partial relocation and partial on-site upgrading.
The municipality says there are 39 informal settlements that will be upgraded and improved.
