Urgent court application to prevent ship carrying livestock from leaving the port of EL

The NSPCA says it will bring an urgent application in the Grahamstown High Court on Wednesday to prevent the departure of a ship carrying livestock from leaving East London for Mauritius.

Algoa FM has learnt that the ship, Barkley Pearl, is due in port later this week.

NSPCA spokesperson, Andries Venter, says the application seeks to interdict the Minister of Agriculture and other roleplayers from allowing the ship to leave with live animals on board.

He says they believe that the shipping of livestock is barbaric and also dangerous for the animals.
